Taking off and hovering over the ground was an unusual but exciting sensation. Once we were given the all clear, we were up and away.
We flew from Bankstown Airport up north, past Sydney Olympic Park, over Parramatta River and finally over Sydney CBD, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
The day of our flight, the skies were clear, which made the trip so much more amazing.
Our pilot provided a running commentary of the flight and we were able to communicate amongst each other using the headphones and microphone.
There was so much to see, I didn’t know where to look first. I wish the pilot could have stopped along the way, so I could slowly take it all in.
Flying over the Harbour Bridge was my favourite part – The views were breathtaking and I didn’t want to return. Although our flight was 30 minutes long, it felt like it was over and done with in 5 minutes.
The pilot recorded our whole flight, so for a small fee, we were able to have the whole experience on video.

For many families, a helicopter tour is the highlight of their trip to Sydney. However, parents should be aware that most tour companies have a minimum age requirement of 2 years old. Children between the ages of 2 and 16 must travel with a parent or guardian, and all passengers must be able to sit upright in their seats and wear a seatbelt.
Night helicopter flight in Sydney
Sydney Helitours offer Sydney night flights, which last approximately 25 minutes. No matter what seat you are in, you get a great view of the Sydney Harbour.
As the helicopter starts its ascent, you are treated to a stunning panorama of the city below. The lights of the skyline twinkle like stars, and the dark waters of the harbor reflect them back. You can see the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and in the distance, Manly Beach. Your pilot points out landmarks and tells you stories about the city as you fly overhead. The experience is both exhilarating and relaxing,
Helicopter flight height
When it comes to helicopters, they are able to fly at high altitudes due to the design of their blades. The blades of a helicopter are able to work in extremely thin air, which allows the helicopter to fly at altitudes of 10,000 feet or more. This provides the optimal atmosphere for manoeuvring, as the air is less dense and there is less resistance. Not only does this make flying more efficient, but it also reduces wear and tear on the blades. As a result, helicopters are able to take advantage of the higher altitudes and perform at their best.
Helicopter flight weather
While all helicopters are able to fly in the rain, the water droplets can affect the pilot’s ability to see outside, depending on the rain’s intensity. This concept is known as ‘flight visibility’. Flight visibility is the distance at which an aircraft can be seen and identified by a observer on the ground. The intensity of the rain can reduce flight visibility, making it more difficult for the pilot to see outside. In some cases, the rain may even be so heavy that it completely obscures the pilot’s view. However, even in these conditions, helicopters are still able to fly safely. So long as the pilot is aware of the reduced visibility, they can take precautions to ensure a safe flight.
However there are times when they cannot fly. During severe weather conditions, such as thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy rain, helicopters are grounded. The reason for this is simple – safety. High winds can make it difficult for pilots to maintain control of the aircraft, and heavy rain can reduce visibility and make it harder to navigate. As a result, flying during storms is simply too dangerous.
