Dee Why Beach is a beautiful spot on the NSW North Coast. It’s well known for its surfing, but there’s much more to it than that.
Dee Why Beach is one of Sydney’s popular beaches and is located about 18km from the Sydney CBD. The beach itself is around 1.2 km long and patrolled by life savers during summer months. It’s a picturesque place boasting what many believe has some of Sydney’s finest sand! It stretches from Dee Why at the southern end to Long Reef at the northern end. Dee Why Beach was recently redeveloped and offers many great cafes and restaurants, a grassed area, playground and BBQs and picnic tables located along the coastal strip.
You will find a bike path that runs along the coast offering cyclists uninterrupted riding routes without having to stop for cars.

Things to Do at Dee Why Beach
If you have young children, they will enjoy:
- Swimming at shallow pool at southern end of the beach

Is Dee Why Part of Sydney’s Northern Beaches?
Dee Why Beach is considered part of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. It is located between Curl Curl Beach and Fisherman’s Beach. The Beach is divided into two areas – Dee Why Beach at the southern end and Long Reef Beach at the northern end.
Can You Swim at Dee Why Lagoon?
Dee Why lagoon is not really suitable for swimming, although there is a small area near Long Reef, where kids can splash. The Surf School sometimes takes its students there to practice on their boards before going into the surf
Is Dee Why Beach Patrolled?
Both ends of the beach, ie Dee Why Beach at the southern end and Long Reef Beach at the northern end are patrolled during summer months.

Beach Ocean Pool
Dee Why Beach has two pools at the southern end of the beach – a 50 metre pool and a small shallow toddlers pool. Both get cleaned regularly.
You will also find large rock areas next to the pool with many rock tiny pools that are homes to fascinating marine life. An awesome area to explore with your kids, but be careful as it can be slippery.

The water temperature will range between 20-24°C during the summer months.

Dee Why Beach Cafes and Restaurants
Cafes and Restaurants are numerous and varied, catering to the local community as well as visitors. The cafes offer many services ranging from all day breakfast, light lunches to gourmet dining. Many of these are open till late serving meals till 9pm or later.
Stella Blu

Dee Why Beach BBQ Area
Located near the playground on the southern end of the beach, you will find several BBQs and picnic tables. Enjoy a spectacular view or watch your children play on the swings.
Dee Why Beach Playground
Michaela Howie Playground is located at the southern end of the beach and overlooks the swimming pools and the beach. It is an enclosed playground, so parents can be sure their toddlers will be safe. It features swings and a large play structure with slides and ladders.

Toilets and Showers
There are several bathrooms and showers available at Dee Why Beach. You will find showers, change rooms and toilets near the surf club and also bathrooms near the toddler swimming pool.
Is Dee Why Beach Dog Friendly?
Dee Why Beach does not have an offleash area for your furry friends. Whilst many people do bring their dogs to the beach, they must be on a leash. The closest unleashed dog area is at Griffith Park, near Long Reef.
Dee Why Beach Markets
The Beach does not have regular market days, however, on special occasions such as Australia Day, International Women’s Day etc it hosts special events and markets.

The best way to get to Dee Why Beach is by car, however you can catch public transport.
Dee Why Beach has 3 different bus services that run directly into Dee Why – Routes 220, 223 & L38.

Parking at the Beach
A large car park is located off Dee Why Parade. You will need to pay at the parking machines unless you have a local parking sticker. Dee Why is a relatively densely populated area with many apartments, so parking can be a little challenging, however, if you are looking for free all day parking, you may be able to find it in one of the side streets.
